Rated 2 out of 5 by from Avg Homeowner??? I thought this would be all the trimmer I need for average Homeowner. Wrong, I get frustrated every time I use it. Charge does not last long enough to finish my lawn; edging sidewalks & trimming around landscape edging. The blades DO NOT LAST long enough. I go through approx. 4 sets a weekend. They are not cheap, either and hard to find. My Hardware store that sold me the trimmer, never has them and closest lawnmower shop is 5 miles away. Also, as they get close to the end, they the ends fall off in the lawn or sidewalk.I have purchased blades on-line, "made in china???" version and much cheaper, but do not last as long as the Stihl blades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light in Weight yet Heavy Duty You won't need a back brace maneuvering this trimmer and your arms won't be fatigued either. Having over twenty years of Professional Landscaping experience, I've used more expensive trimmers that weighed more than twice again as much, and frankly string trimmers are a nightmare when then start going bad. The two blade system cleared undergrowth without a hitch and proved to be more durable than I imagined. The no-nonsense rapid charging was clear, concise, and the battery life when fully charged outlasted the project. You can buy less expensive trimmers and you'll be disappointed. You can spend even more and get a heavy gas powered unit that won't be as convenient or as easy to operate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trimmer I know Stihl been around for a long time and have great types of equipment that meet the customers need. I have been using Black & Decker trimmer in the past and want to change it to a better one. I am staying with Stihl brand after I tried the trimmer twice and it was better than my old one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight and don't have to mess with string I have had the unit for 1 1/2 yrs. and love it. It runs about 20+ minutes on a charge and about 2 hours to recharge - that is perfect because I can recharge also - works great on small areas - I have used 2 sets of blades in 1 1/2 yrs. - told an older couple about the trimmer and they purchased one and love it

Rated 2 out of 5 by from May be better off with real string trimmer The plastic cutting blades on this unit do not stand up to rocks and other hard objects. My property has many rocks so i went through three sets of blades in 15 minutes of cutting. Unlike an actual string timmer, there is no automatic feed or bump feed - its called stop, invert, and replace the blades (although there is handy on-board spare blade storage) - very time consuming. I immediately returned it and bought another brand. I suppose if you have only grass to cut with no hard objects to maneuver around, this may work for you - it is very light and the adjustable shaft is nice, and there is no external battery to deal with. Oh, and the ability to use actual trimmer string with this tool; rather cumbersome. Don’t like the safety key - misplace it and you’re done. Beware of the 7 day return policy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trimmer This is a great choice for the right application. I have a small yard with light trimming needs and this works great. Lightweight, quiet and easy to use. Probably not designed for really big yards but for me it’s perfect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Running time too short!!! I was wanting a light weight battery trimmer. Store personnel excited about this. Said 30 min to 35 min running time.. No way!! It was about 15 minutes the 2 times I used it. I have a lot of lawn and love to trim but this is not acceptable. IF I can clean it up I will take it back..Feel it should be returnable as is. So disappointed. My present one runs about 45 min...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lousy runn time per charge It took 3hrs to fully charge the battery out of the box. First cutting with plastic blades lasted about 40 minutes. After 1.5 hours on the second charge, the 3rd led light was still blinking. Used to anyway and got 15-20 minutes of run time. Considering the price, it is a huge disappointment. Manuals are way understating performance.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I feel like I feel like it’s a good machine on power wise. But the battery does not stay charged long enough to finish the job. It takes two charges to do my yard. It has good power cutting the bigger stuff like kosher weed about quarter inch thick. Any bigger it has problems. So it is good for grass and smaller plants. It’s lightweight. The blades are a little pricey for how long they last. But overall I say gets the job done. If they have a bigger charge life I believe that I would be satisfied with it. I just got it so I will see how long it lasts and how durable it is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of Crap It's a waste of money. The battery won't last no time and it takes over 4 hours to charge it. The plastic blades are nubs in 15 minutes. I even tried using the line which is hard to put into the head and takes 10 minutes to thread into the head. I was tired of dealing with gas trimmers since the gas they use these days clogs up the carb. Get a decent gas trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trimmer I am a Stihl employee, I will try to be as unbiased as possible.I do not have a very large area of lawn, I figured that the FSA45 for my need in a trimmer. This being a fairly new product I have to say that for the price and the fact that it is battery powered, I am literally surprised at the length of battery time. I can actually complete my yard, my daughter in laws yard and still have battery left. Extremely pleased with my grass trimmer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad choice. Requires .065 line and optional plastic blades destruct readily. Have owned many trimmers and this is the absolute worst. .065 line is too lightweight for even my small residential yard. Plastic optional blades wear down almost immediately. Company would say I am using it wrong. NOT.Will be going back to gas and a different brand. Do not want to chance another of their brand .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressive After reading the reviews I was not sure this was the trimmer to buy , after going to the store and checking it out I did purchase and it is better than I had hoped , I think the problem people have with it is they treat it like a line trimmer and get to close to metal , concrete , etc , their is no line to bump out to continue on , I have a small yard but do have a concrete slab , trees , metal pipe , if you take it easy and not keep it up against the the obstacle it is a dream trimmer , I hit all the obsicalaes and the blades are fine and I love that if you do run out of blades you can put some line in and finish the job , Great trimmer

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not in love with it I wish it had string instead of the plastic blades. The blades wear down really fast, especially if you are trimming next to a hard surface-which is most of the time. When the blades come into contact with the ground it either stops or wants to walk on you- cutting some random stripe in the yard. It's very difficult to edge with and using it like that will mow through the blades. However, the blades are super easy to change and I like the simplicity of being battery powered. Starts every time and it's pretty light. The rotating head and shaft is a nice feature that gets used.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product has advertised great features but does not deliver! I will be returning this trimmer tomorrow. I have a small yard and had to restring it 8 times when half done, so gave up on that. Bought larger diameter string but it snapped off after two feet. The centripital force causes the slot to act as a razor and slices the plastic string off. Then tried the plastic blades provided. Machine would shut off after 2-3- feet. Not a good investment and a surprisingly poor STIHL prodeuct. Extremely disappointed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The product works very well, but the battery could use a little more longevity I have a simple yard with two walkways, and about 6 bushes to trim around. The big thing is driveway edging. My driveway is about 125 feet long (250 total), and I can't do trimming and edging on one battery charge. This might be unfair because the "average" driveway isn't than long, and for those, the battery would probably make it just fine. And, it gets through all but the last 50 feet. The product is light weight, and does a good job. Overall, I'm very happy; I just need to know that I'll have to charge it again if I do both wacking and edging on the same day. No big deal.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Long charging time for little use I could not be more dissatisfied with the Stihl FSA 45 trimmer. It takes 3 1/2 hours for a full charge which only lasts 20 minutes. If it is not allowed to cool down before beginning the charge, red indicator lights come on. I was under the impression that Stihl products were of good quality, but sadly this is not the case with this trimmer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I found my trimmer Recently I suffered a stroke. The person I once was is no more. I no longer have the strength to carry a large trimmer for a long period of time. I even bought an electric trimmer to see if I could handle it. I would have to pull out 150' of power cords and after trimming. I would be exhausted. One day, I noticed my neighbor with a battery powered trimmer and he just zipped around trimming his grass. Luckily Stihl was selling the FSA 45 at what I considered a price. I bought it and tried it out. Now I just have light grass to trim around bushes and sidewalks, but it has answered my prayers. It is light, and can use poly blades or trimmer string, but I have been using the poly blades and they have done the job. It's easy to use, again light to carry and I don't have to lug all that cord out each time I trim. I have used it throughout the summer and can't find fault with it. For light trimming this is the real thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My wife wanted one for her. Birthday to help me keep up with the trimming around our place. She loves it, the light weight and quiet running. We have had the trimmer for three weeks but cannot find anyone that carries the replacement blades. The dealer where we bought it keeps promising they should be in next week, but not yet. Also it looks like the blades are quite pricey. So be sure to consider the aftermarket cost and hassle when buying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My 6 year old LOVES it!! The FSA 45 was a replacement for my 6 year old son's 20v Black & Decker weed trimmer. He absolutely loves the features of his new Stihl trimmer, a Stihl man through and through! After he proved to me how to safely operate a battery trimmer along with understanding basic operations and maintenance of his previous trimmer would I consider upgrading his tool to something a little nicer. As his parent I really appreciate Stihl engineering a "key" that can be taken out of the trimmer to prevent my son from accidentally endangering himself or someone else when I'm not around to supervise him. The run time is decent on the 18v as long you don't go crazy trying to cut over-growth or something. The trimmer is feature rich with extra plastic blades attached to the bottom side of the trimmer, ability to convert to edger, adjustable shaft, and adjustable head makes for a very ergonomic trimmer. I myself have the 36v straight shaft trimmer, 36v blower, and 36v hedge trimmer. Great tools Stihl!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NO REPLACEMENT BLADES = USELESS My first Stihl purchase. Bought mainly on company's reputation. It was what I was looking for, a trimmer with blades instead of line. I've always had bad luck with the spools of tangled line from line trimmers, so I bought the FSA 45 Trimmer. Worked fine, not terribly powerful but I bought it for smaller jobs and went into it knowing what I was getting. What I didn't know was that I wouldn't be able to get replacement blades. They are non-existent as far as I can tell. I've checked at all of the hardware stores and online, read reviews and for some reason they can't be found which basically means I bought an expensive disposable trimmer. As the weeds grow I must now go out and purchase another trimmer. Can you guess what brand it won't be?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, low maintenance trimmer for yard work I bought this trimmer from my local full service dealer and love it. I don't have a huge amount of property to cover so except for the first use when I started getting the yard into shape I've been able to do clearing and edging for both yards on one charge. This trimmer is very lightweight and easy to use for basic yard duty. The only problems I have with it are that the blade coasts rather than braking when the trigger is released, and the fact that the blades seem to wear fairly quickly. Fortunately they are relatively cheap and extremely easy to replace, and I have learned how to use the trimmer better without wearing them down as fast. Overall I would recommend this trimmer for basic yard maintenance with little to no hassle or maintenance required.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like this FSA 45 After reading all the negative reviews, it makes me wonder if people were expecting more out of this little yard trimmer. And... I love the string option. Yes people it has a string option of .065 right next to the blade attachment. Either your dealer is not informed or you didn't look at the manual. I traded my Ryobi 20volt rig for this one and I am happy. Next time do some research on the tool your buying. Don't buy a claw hammer to drive railroad spikes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from only thing i like is its lightweight I am so disappointed! Always heard Stihl was the best I beg to differ. For the money I paid 2 months ago only to have it back at the dealer twice. They wont refund or exchange. When the Red lights come in its an Electrical Malfunction. Or so the manuel says. I had only used 7 times when the lights came on took to dealer they RAN it 3 times no problems after keeping it almost a week. I found out today they didnt Use it. Because after using 3 more times it started with the Red lights again so I was back at the dealer. Apparently its ok to use something with an Electrical Malfunction! Also the line will not stay in. It flies across the yard so therefore you have to buy the more expensive blades which get chewd up around fence or concrete. Also theyvhave to be kept in water to keep from breaking off which I was not told. I could go on and on but I have to go try this thing again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Greatly disappointed in this trimmer Purchased this product for my wife. She does most of the trimming, she's small, so small and lighter weight were a priority. Purchased at a dedicated outdoor equipment dealer, so we would trust their judgement a bit more. To say the least, both the decision to purchase this model, and the information given to us before the purchase, have left us greatly displeased. First, we were told by the salesman that recharge time was in the half hour range. WRONG. Multiple hours needed to fully recharge. Second, the blade life is terrible. The blades are not breaking, they are just flat out wearing out in a very short amount of cutting. It came with extra blades, she's went through those in very short time span. Before purchasing, we asked about the option of converting to a string type head. We were told that using string ran the battery down much quicker. With the short life we're already experiencing, I can only imagine how little could/would be done if we converted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use I am 5'2"..small framed..bought this to trim in between husband using gas powered trimmer, which is to big for me. I wish battery lasted longer. But we own 2 acres.. I did most of front. Around all my hardscaping..it was awesome.. it gets heavy after awhile. Battery didn't take long to charge a few hours.. blades are easy to change. May get expensive if doing whole tard. Fencing chews up blades ,but that's any trimmer issue. Highly recommend for small female or men with small to medium yards .I had plenty to do so I recharged battery while working on sweeping sidewalks, planting flowers. Ready to go again.. I needed the break I weed eater almost an hour before dead battery..Need an attachment to store on wall with trimmer price.. Easy to use.. could be lighter.. but I love it.. Not our main trimmer, we use this for in between and I use since our second or main trimmer is to big to heavy.Perfect for me..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Complete Waste of my money! I am very disappointed in this weed eater! I wish I had never purchased it! The battery will only last about 30 minutes and the trimmer line is so thin that you have to replace it about every 10 feet....or less. So frustrating! Half the time the trimmer line will not even stay in place and when you turn on the weed eater it shoots the trimmer line off into the grass. Again, I Wish I had not wasted my money!!! :(.
